The traditional bamboo tea whisk is indispensable for enjoying matcha. The more tips you have, the easier it is to create a fine lather. This particular product has the standard 80 tips.

Takayama Chasen

Produced in Takayama Town, Ikoma City, Nara Prefecture, the tea whisk known as "Takayama Chasen" is a traditional Japanese craft item. The Chasen is crafted by finely splitting raw bamboo with a small knife, then warming it in hot water. The tips are gradually whittled so they become thinner, and the whisk is formed by bending and weaving the tips together. Every Chasen is handmade, guided by the sensitivity of the fingertips. Although Chasen is a consumable item, its graceful curves are as captivating as a piece of fine art.

This tea whisk from Takayama Chiksen-Dou is created using techniques that have been passed down in Takayama for over 500 years, and each one is still individually handcrafted today.

How to Clean Matcha Whisk

When using a new tea whisk, wash it lightly in water and then rinse it again in hot water. After use, wash it in cold water without using a dishwasher or detergent, dry it thoroughly in a well-ventilated place out of direct sunlight, and store it in a cool, dark place where temperature and humidity do not change much.
