Introducing Single Origin matcha from Matcha Direct, where we pride ourselves on delivering freshly-ground, high-quality matcha. Single Origin refers to tea leaves of the same cultivar cultivated by a single producer. Not only can you enjoy the distinct flavors of each cultivar, but also the unique characteristics derived from the specific terroir of that tea field. Although the exact taste of Single Origin might very with each year’s harvest, it’s also one of unique charms. We're excited to present the three Single Origin cultivars we've prepared for this year.
Three unique Single Origin matcha varieties
#100 Samidori Hand-Picked
This exceptional matcha is carefully hand-picked from the 'Samidori' cultivar, a royal path of Uji type used in Matcha. Its striking greenish-blue hue brings to mind the melting of tea leaves, imparting a sense of serenity purely from its appearance. With one sip, a gentle, pure umami flavor that spreads throughout your mouth and leaves a delightful aftertaste. We highly recommend this matcha as the perfect option for thick tea (koicha), delivering a rich flavor and awe-inspiring taste in every cup. This single-origin matcha is cultivated by a dedicated farmer who was honored as the best in Japan at the 2021 National Tea Product Evaluation Convention.
#101 Ujihikari Single Origin
This single-origin matcha is made from the rare and high-quality Uji cultivar called Ujihikari. This matcha's unique flavor and aroma sets it apart from other cultivars. With the first sip, you'll experience a subtle umami flavor that gives way to a refreshing, elegant bitterness reminiscent of cocoa that lingers on your tongue, highlighting the crisp aftertaste. A thin brew (usucha) is the best way to enjoy its exquisite taste. While being a high-quality classic matcha, we recommend it to those looking for a unique origin.
#103 Saemidori Single Origin
From Wazuka Town, known for its top-quality teas, the #103 presents a perfect blend of savory and refreshing bitterness – the true essence of matcha. This blend is ideal for beginners to the world of tea ceremonies, and we also recommend it to those trying matcha for the first time. Although we only use the origins of farmers who cultivate with care on shelves, the price is relatively low. *Please note that Saemidori and Samidori are different varieties.
